Water Quality, Growth, and Capacity

By Ed Hamlin

Candidate for Director; Golden Hills Community Services District

This information is provided by the candidate
Our current capacity is adequate for the foreseeable future. We need to be vigilant about monitoring quality, but there is no need for panic.
Recent testing of wells in Golden Hills CSD has shown that our current water quality is well within the state and federal standards. We need to continue to test, perhaps more frequently than the law requires, and monitor trends. But there doesn't seem to be cause for alarm.

Golden Hills water consumption has actually been DECREASING over the last few years (according to Tehachapi-Cummings water district). From a peak about 5-6 years ago, we have seen a small DECLINE in usage.

Growth in Golden Hills (insofar as future water demand is concerned) is best measured by the rate of building permits and water meter installations. We are not seeing a very high rate of growth in these areas - less than 2% per year, in fact.

There is nothing in the known future that would drive the growth, such as the construction of CCI that caused the tremendous growth of the 80's.

Therefore, it seems that the concerns about capacity, growth, and quality are OVERSTATED. We need to watch the growth, monitor the water quality, and keep an eye on the future - but we have nothing to panic about.
