I grew up in Monterey County and went to elementary and high school in Salinas. In 1997 I graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in American Studies. After I graduated from college, I joined Jesuit Volunteer Corps and was placed as a volunteer in Houston, Texas. I worked with at risk students in Texas and served many families that struggled with homelessness. After JVC I returned to Salinas and attended graduate school at night while I worked as a teacher during the day. I love teaching. Helping children succeed is a daily joy to me. During the past 15 years as a teacher in Monterey County I have created prekindergarten programs, taught all grades kindergarten through fifth, and written curriculum for all grade levels. After ten years in the classroom I returned to graduate school at night and completed my administrative credential. I have worked in Sacramento on policy issues and mentored new teachers. I decided to run for the Santa Rita Union School District Governing Board because I want all children to have the opportunity to be successful. I want to take what I have learned teaching in the classroom, writing curriculum, and working on state programs to help our local children. Children in Salinas deserve the best education possible. I want to help provide it to them. |
