Political Philosophy for Brenda Washington Davis

Government should be transparent, accurate, comprehensible, and responsive. Water is precious and will always be a basic necessity of life that we must manage well. We should determine our own water supply destiny. 1. Put SSWD ratepayers first. a. Safety I will focus on water quality for drinking, bathing and food preparation at home, in restaurants, in hospitals, in schools; emergency preparedness if there is continued drought, flash flooding or a prolonged rainfall event. b. Affordability I will focus on smart operations (e.g., incentivize employees), maintenance and improvements that are timely and respect ratepayers' budgets. c. Integrity I will focus on being responsive and providing neighborhood friendly services, transparent decision-making, fair dealings, delivering on commitments. 2. Promote jobs and the economy. I will focus on reliability of water supply at affordable rates as a key factor in businesses staying here or locating here and the jobs and customers that come with those businesses as enhancements to the vibrant community we serve. 3. Creatively plan for the future. I will focus on good planning to provide answers: What do we do if this drought continues for another 3-5 years? What do we do if there is a Napa type of fire or other emergency calling on current water supplies or facilities at an unexpectedly rapid and severe rate of use? What will reassure our children and their children that district services will be here to support their lifestyles and businesses and ensure a high quality of life? |
