Increase Quality of Care Partneringn with NursesBy Evelyn M. FosterCandidate for Board Member; Marin Healthcare District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Listening to the Nurses is essential to improving quality of care. The bottom line on this effort is "listen." No one knows better the level of care that is delivered to patients than the nursing staff. A critical issue to improving quality of care is to reduce the use of registry nurses. Research clearly shows that adverse patient outcomes increase when registry nurses, who are unfamiliar with the hospital, work at the patient bedside. The "them and us" attitude must be eliminated for a team approach. Patients can perceive the dynamics of interactions between admin/doctors/nurses. If it is not positive, it impacts the quality of care delivered and patients' outcomes. I will champion this change of attitude within the hospital. |
