Political Philosophy for Scott Miller
Candidate for |

|
I've been privileged to serve as Monterey County Sheriff for the past four years. I also served as Pacific Grove's police chief for six years and as a Council Member for four years, including two years as Mayor Pro Tempore. My public service has included seventeen years as a police officer with the Salinas Police Department, where I rose through the ranks to become a Captain/Division Commander. I began my law enforcement career as a deputy sheriff in 1976. I'd be honored to continue serving my community as Sheriff of Monterey County. I believe integrity, competence, and moral courage are the most important characteristics elected officials should possess. As your Sheriff, I have tried to serve with this in mind. I pledge to continue providing competent and trustworthy leadership, as I have demonstrated throughout my public career. The lasting impact of bad decisions can devastate our County for many years. Everyone in this County deserves to have their voice heard, whether or not they belong to a special interest group. Everyone should be treated with equal respect and dignity. No one should be marginalized because they possess different views than those in power. We need to maintain a sense of fairness, dignity and respect on the part of the Office of the Sheriff. After more than thirty years of public service, I'm conversant on the issues involved in running a large law enforcement agency properly. In addition to my first term as Sheriff, I commanded all three divisions that comprise the Salinas Police Department, the largest police agency on the Central Coast. I've supervised hundreds of employees and managed multi-million dollar public safety budgets for more than eighteen years. I have passionately preserved the best things from the storied past of the Sheriff's Office while doing the things necessary to successfully move the Office into the future. I have addressed a number of priority issues as Sheriff that directly impact public safety here in Monterey County. Please visit my website at sheriffscottmiller.com for more specific details. I will consider it an honor to serve you another four years as your Monterey County Sheriff. Scott Miller |
