Candidate for
Member, Board of Education; Greenburgh Central School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I have two sons, both of whom attended Greenburgh Central 7 schools from Kindergarten through Woodlands High School. The oldest graduated in 2000 and the youngest in 2007.

Residency: I have been a Hartsdale homeowner for 28 years.

Education: I received a BS in Business Administration from Iona College.

I received additional developmental education during my 25+ years employed at IBM and Texaco. This involved in-depth management development, supervisory skills, research and project management . In addition, received advanced technology training on all types of PCs, printers and office equipment, multiple local area network design and implementation, business systems, CISCO, Research & Development, and the Internet. I am an experienced trainer, having conducted numerous training sessions on the above subjects during my tenure at these corporations.

Occupation: After 25+ years of working for two Fortune 500 companies in the IT area, lastly as an Advanced Information Technology Specialist, responsible for PC support and R&D for an Executive Department for more than 6 years, I switched gears and am now involved with my 2 passions -- young students and technology. I currently work as a Development Associate for a non-profit company in the South Bronx, which provides free computers, printers, and training to inner-city middle school students and their families, as well as to senior citizens in the Bronx.

Having served three terms on the Board and having two children who have gone through the GC7 schools, brings a much needed, rich historical perspective to the table when confronted with current issues. However, my strongest attribute is having an absolute sense of right and wrong -- I am not afraid to speak out on any issue and I am not [and have never been] a rubber stamp.

I proudly consider myself to be a fiscal conservative. I know these are tough economic times where we have to deal with the loss of state aid while trying to lessen the tax burden to our residents. In spite of the Board's last-minute line-by-line review of the budget, which brought the budget-to-budget increase down to .89%, I am disappointed that we were unable to go even lower. If this year has taught me nothing else, I have learned that a line-by-line review of the budget by the Board must be started in January of every year. I want to be there to ensure that this happens.
