Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Susan Penchansky

Candidate for
Member, Board of Education; Greenburgh Central School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I strongly believe in public education and the fact that every child deserves a chance to succeed. Demography should have no effect on any child's opportunity to achieve success. I work hard to ensure that I never forget that I am working on behalf of our students. That principle is at the core of every decision I make.

I proudly consider myself to be a fiscal conservative. I know these are tough economic times where we have to deal with the loss of state aid while trying to lessen the tax burden to our residents. In spite of the Board's last-minute line-by-line review of the budget, which brought the budget-to-budget increase down to .89%, I am disappointed that we were unable to go even lower. If this year has taught me nothing else, I have learned that a line-by-line review of the budget by the Board must be started in January of every year. I want to be there to ensure that this happens.

Lastly, I am an individual who wants transparency and holds everyone accountable from the Superintendent on down. I do not believe district business should be conducted in the shadows; where legally possible, every activity should be conducted in the open. I have a strong sense of right and wrong and I'm not afraid to speak out. I am not [and never have been]a rubber stamp.
