La Shawn grew up in southern California with his older sister to a single mom where he was a three-sport star in high school. He eventually chose football receiving numerous scholarship offers from the likes of University of Colorado, UCLA and Pacific. After several good seasons at Pacific La Shawn graduated with a degree in political science. La Shawn B. Wells has a lifelong passion for empowering the underserved. Fresh out of college he chose to advocate for abused babies in Southern California. From there he took on the task of serving the homeless, the developmentally disabled, and at risk youth. With a strong interest also in business and sports, Wells started several enterprises and eventually became a consultant to mid-sized corporations and non-profits who needed his management expertise and negotiation skills. He completed his law degree at John F. Kennedy School of Law in Walnut Creek but was drawn to a campus in Pleasant Hill called Western Career College. His entreprenurial expereince includes creating a certified trademark that became his signature for a line of clothing that he launched with the rebuild LA project after the riots in 1992. He would go on to become a certified national football league player representative where he negotiated several contracts for his players with the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints. Wells started his current career in the classroom, was soon promoted to Dean and finally to the position of Executive Director with the responsibility for managing all campus affairs. While at the helm of the 400 student school Wells has been responsible for an increase in the growth of the student population, increased revenue (fifty four percent year over year), and a 92% employee satisfaction and 88% student satisfaction rate. La Shawn has also dedicated 15 years of his life as a volunteer youth coach. He currently serves as the head varsity softball coach for Carondelet High School in Concord. He was certified as an American Softball Association coach in 2004 by ASA. He helped to revive the NorCal Shockers fast pitch softball organization by serving as the President, manager and coach of the 10, 12 and 16 and under age groups simultaneously. La Shawn has helped his players go on to play at and receive scholarships at some of the best schools in the country including Cal Berkeley, Northwestern, Boston College and Brown University. La Shawn has over 10 years of experience as a softball fast pitch instructor specializing in "Fast Pitch" fundamentals and pitching mechanics for girls ages 8 and up. |
