Ruth has served on the Emeryville City Council since November 1999. Her promises made and kept include improved quality of life with the creation of more parks and open space, more striped bike paths, the installation of the Greenway along Doyle Street with more to come and greater neighborhood engagement. She initiated the revision of the City's noise ordinance, supported the creation of the Urban Forestry ordinance, and pushed for policy to include domestic partner health benefits for city employees. Locally, Ruth sits on the bicycle/pedestrian, climate change, and housing committees as well as the Brownfields task force. Regionally, she serves as Vice-Chair of the Commission for the Alameda County Housing Authority, and is on the Board of Directors for the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency and the Alameda County Transportation Authority, and is the alternate for the Executive Committee of the Association of Bay Area Governments and the Alameda Transportation Improvement Association. Ruth is guided by her commitment to social justice after working as a geriatric social worker for 23 years and working in social change organizations. She has a Masters degree in Social Work and a Bachelors degree in Sociology. |
