Taxpayers don't want a street sweeper parking ticket ordinance

City officials have ignored the taxpayers and have enacted a new street sweeping parking ticket ordinance. Each violation costs $32.00 and generates over $50000.00 in new revenue each month.

THE STREET SWEEPING PARKING TICKET ORDINANCE IS OPPOSED BY NEARLY ALL CITIZENS.

This new ordinance fines everyone obstructing the imperial fleet of street sweeper trucks.

The penalty for each infraction - $32.00. Outrageous!

City officials cite the need to prevent urban runoff from reaching the ocean.

FACT: For over 50 years street sweepers have been successfully collecting debris without the need for parking tickets. No matter how you look at it, ticketing parked cars does not reduce urban runoff. It does, however, increase city revenues. If the city wants to clean up urban runoff, it should fine the producers of urban runoff..... not parked cars!

City officials state that "the streets must be cleaned to prevent urban runoff.

FACT: The storm drains have been diverted to the OC sanitation district waste treatment plant. We are still experiencing more beach closures today than ever before in the history of HB.

FACT: Reports of cars leaking oil onto city streets go unanswered by the city. This is not about urban runoff at all. It's about money!

FACT: The city is generating over $50000.00 each month in street sweeping parking fines. Street sweeping is, and has always been, fully funded through taxes. Taxpayers are now paying twice for street sweeping services.

Taxpayers overwhelmingly oppose the street sweeping parking ordinance.

FACT: Thc city council unanimously voted to enact this ordinance.

When elected, Norm Westwell will immediately propose to repeal the new street sweeping parking ticket ordinance.
