BILLIONS of gallons of drinking water pumped down the drain!By Norm "Firecracker" WestwellCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Huntington Beach | |

While telling the taxpayers of HB to conserve water, the city pumped BILLIONS of gallons of drinking water down the drain. Guess who paid for all this water? Our increased water bills speak for themselves.BILLIONS of gallons pumped down the drain forcing water bills to increase! The city was pumping BILLIONS, that's right BILLIONS of gallons of drinking water directly down the drain. This was done while the city was admonishing taxpayers to conserve water. Norm Westwell caught the city pumping water out of one our wells directly into a storm drain. The city had covered up the end of the pipe so no one would see what was happening. This pumping continued 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This was no trickle of water. This was a nine inch pipe gushing as much water as you can possibly imagine. You could fill an average swimming pool in about 3 minutes. In only 3 months, the city dumped over 16,000 acre feet of water. Imagine an acre of water over 16,000 feet high. Thats alot of water! This pumping was to continue for an entire year. The city claimed they were performing water testing. Calls to other cities revealed that well testing should take no more than seven days..... at the longest! Well test data has since shown the water quality to be the highest of any of our wells. Here is the bad news! Taxpayers had to pay for all that water! And this was done when the city was asking everyone to conserve water! Norm Westwell fought to get this pumping stopped after 3 months instead of the 12 months the city planed to pump. In case you haven't noticed, the amount we pay for city supplied water has increased. We must have better controls of officials in charge of our infrastructure. OUR taxes must be spent more wisely. Our elected officials are responsible for watching over our city. They seem to think their job is to just think up new ways to spend our taxes. Who is watching over us? Not our current council. Whether elected or not, Norm Westwell will continue to watch over HB. |
