Return of property tax to cities, counties and special districtsBy Merita A. CallawayCandidate for State Senator; District 1 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Since 1992/93 the State has taken $422 million in property tax from the Senate District; must negotiate a return. It is property tax that serves the needs of local communities. I have lobbied, along with other County Supervisors for the return of these funds. A recent court case said the taking of these dollars was not legal. We must negotiate a formula for its return. I understand the issue and implication for local government. I am dedicated to the return of property tax. In addition, we must develop a long term agreement on state and local government finance. I understand local government, its finances and its importance to the community. |
