Health Care

By Merita A. Callaway

Candidate for State Senator; District 1

This information is provided by the candidate
We only have a community and an economy if we have affordable and accessible health care for all Californians.
This is an excellent example of where we must focus on the long-term and develop policies to get us there. We must not legislate health care to where it increases road blocks for the public and the medical profession.

Some suggestions to have affordable and accessible care:

  • Promote development of a "universal" health care system that would allow acccess to quality health for anyone without private insurance.
  • work toward technological solutions that can improve the accessibility of care to rural residents.
  • Promote policies that encourage health care providers and HMOs to stay in rural counties so that our most vulnerable citizens are not left stranded.
  • Advocate reform of current Medi-Cal system to increase reimbrsement rates to health care providers, expand benefits, and reduce compliance burdens.
  • Form a partnership between government, schools and private employers to bring change to bear on the insurance component of the health care field.
