My name is Irma Zamorano, and I am a prior School Board member of the Mountain View School District. Since I left the School Board, I have been very active in the local political arena + and also as a volunteer in numerous community efforts. I would best describe myself as a parent advocate, as I strongly believe that parents should play a more active role in their children's education.
That is what motivated me to run the first time. At that time, I was the mother of a special needs child. I saw, to my dismay, that my child's needs were secondary and often cast aside. Because I believe in the old adage, when good people do nothing, evil prevails, I became involved. I became a school board member. I went to Sacramento. I spoke out, but I also made some enemies- one does when one speaks the truth.
Today, running again for the School Board, I am motivated for the same reasons. I have two major beliefs: our children deserve the best, and, as parents, we should be part of the educational process. I will work with parents + to let them know that they, indeed, have rights. But I will also work with teachers and staff to challenge our students with lessons that make sense.
As your school board member, I believe that I have the courage, determination, and the experience to make a difference in our children's lives. I respectfully ask for your vote.
