The "New" Santa Fe Trail

By Edward Madrid, III

Candidate for Council Member; City of Santa Fe Springs

Health and Exercise in Santa Fe Springs
SFS residents, how many of you walk/jog in your neighborhood to exercise or just to get out for some fresh air? Although we've made strides towards being a healthy city, we still have a few areas to deal with. A few streets are still without paved sidewalks causing some to share the roads with vehicles while getting in our daily exercise/walk, of course this could pose a problem because we all know cars and pedestrians can be a recipe for disaster. I see more residents out and about everyday and it's a really nice thing to see. It would be great to create a "trail" of sorts strategically placed throughout the city through neighborhoods and parks in SFS, maybe two or three of them, encouraging residents of all ages to flock to "safer" areas to jog or walk, we could even call them the "Santa Fe Trails." marked off areas with mile markers so residence can keep track of progress etc. Police services could easily monitor these locations along the path of the trails while making their rounds. I have recently lost over 50 pounds with the help of the "50 and over" gym at the Gus Velasco neighborhood center, the Activity Center weight room at Los Nietos park and of course walking through our neighborhoods a few times a week. This trail would add a new dynamic to our city while creating a sense of community and adding to our already health conscience goals as a city, thus encouraging people to come on out and participate. Of course the trail can't pass by everyone's home and everyone may not use it.. but I challenge us to try! Edward Madrid Candidate for SFS City Council Vote November 3rd.
