South Bay Cities Council of Government

By Jim Knight

Candidate for Council Member; City of Rancho Palos Verdes

This information is provided by the candidate
Regional representation for our city and utilize the many resources available through the South Bay Energy Services Center
Being 1st Vice President of the SBCCOG has afforded me the opportunity to tap into the resources of the this Council of Governments to help represent our City in regional issues and run the city more efficiently.

Through the SBCCOG our city has a larger voice to oppose bills coming out of Sacramento that would take away our local control. The SBCCOG is also instrumental in making sure our regional transportation needs are met by METRO.

A branch of the SBCCOG is the South Bay Energy Services Center (SBESC) which provides a vast resource to help residents and municipalities conserve water, gas and electrical use. I tapped into this resource, working along side of our city staff, to help our city save hundreds of thousands of your tax payer's dollars by making our city run more efficiently.

With the help of the SBESC, staff and I were able to discover that our city was paying SCE for over 70 street lights that didn't exist. We got a large refund from SCE and those phantom lights are now off of our electric bill forever.
