Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission

By Jim Knight

Candidate for Council Member; City of Rancho Palos Verdes

This information is provided by the candidate
This regional organization's mission is to keep the Santa Monica bay clean and healthy and protect our RPV Coastline
The Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission (SMBRC) is established by the State Legislature in 2002 to coordinate and advise the activities of state programs and oversee funding that affects the beneficial uses, restoration and enhancement of Santa Monica Bay and its watersheds.

The Commission is made up of a wide variety of state and local representatives including the State and Federal Environmental Protection Agencies, L.A. Regional Water Quality Control Board, Coastal Commission, L.A. County Supervisors, Sanitation Districts, State Senators and Assembly members and locally elected officials.

For me to be on the Governing Board of this organization is of great benefit to our city. Not only do I have an opportunity to network with the multitude of agencies that affect our city but I can be a voice to make sure that the RPV coastline is protected.

Another benefit is that I can keep up on the latest programs to address our Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). This is new water quality regulation that is coming down on all local cities and will be very expensive to meet compliance. My contacts through the SMBRC will help our city make sure we are using the latest technology and the best water quality plans to efficiently and effectively meet our MS4 requirements.
