Biography of Lorraine De La O

Lorraine De La O is a candidate for Rio Hondo Community College District Board of Trustees, Area 2 covering the City of Pico Rivera and a portion of Whittier. Lorraine is a proud 41 year member of SEIU local 721 as mental health care worker for the County of Los Angeles LAC+USC Medical Center-Department of Psychiatry. She is currently retired. During her employment, she served as a Union Stewart for her fighting and protecting for her fellow workers at LAC+USC. She comes from a traditional union household headed by her father Joe Morales, an active Teamster for over 30 years and WWII veteran, who served as a driver. Her children carry on the union tradition as Glazier and Communication union members. Lorraine is a 30 year resident of the City of Pico Rivera and the only candidate who resides in Pico Rivera which comprises over 75% of Area 2 of the Rio Hondo Community College District. Active in her community Lorraine has served as a City Commissioner on the Parks and Recreation Commission, Member of the Arts and Culture Committee, Chair of Concerts in the Park, President of Pico Rivera's Peace Project to reduce crime and violence, the Homeless Veterans Task Force, and other city volunteer positions. She is a lifelong and loyal democrat who has also served on Los Angeles County Democratic Central Committee. Lorraine is dedicated to the care and education of children. She served for twelve years as a Board Member-Treasurer for Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. She also is on the El Rancho Unified School District's Magnet School Committee. As a mental health professional and advocate, Lorraine serves on Congresswoman's Grace Napolitano's "Mental Health Consortium" to create partnerships and collaboration on mental health issues in the congressional district. Lorraine attended Rio Hondo College before transferring to the University of La Verne receiving a Bachelors in Public Administration and subsequently a Masters in Leadership. Lorraine is running to be more responsive to the community and hold Rio Hondo College accountable to the communities they serve. The community of Pico Rivera has been underserved and she will ensure that resources and services are allocated equally and fairly.
