Jay Chen is the past-­president of the Board of Education for Hacienda La Puente Unified School District. During his eight year tenure on the board, he has implemented innovative new programs, including a culinary school, free SAT classes, edible school gardens, and Mandarin immersion classes. His efforts to promote language and culture programs have been covered by The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Los Angeles Times, BBC, and other media outlets.

He is a proud graduate of Hacienda La Puente schools as well as Harvard University, and studied Chinese at Peking University and Spanish at the University of Costa Rica. Professionally, Chen is trained as a strategy consultant, manages real estate investments, and is an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserves. His wife Karen works for the California Science Center and they are the proud parents of Lincoln Chen.

It's Jay's goal to give everyone a chance to attain their higher education dreams the same way he did 15 years ago.
