Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Atascadero Unified School District; 2 Year Short Term

My family and I have lived and worked in the district for 10 years; we love our community and truly have made it our home. My wife Rebecca grew up in Atascadero and we have three small children who will be going to school in the district until the year 2030! I have committed my life to service; a boy scout as a boy, a Marine for six years with service in the gulf war, a missionary in Africa, founder of the AmpSurf learn to surf program for disabled veterans and others with disabilities, a soccer and basketball coach, and currently as your County Veterans Service Officer. My work in serving the community and being a leader has been recognized in several ways. In 2010 I was selected as a CNN Hero, 1 of only 22 out of 27,000 from around the world for my work with those living with disabilities. In 2011 I was named Veteran of the Year by State Senator Sam Blakeslee. In 2012 I was named Patriot of the Year by Toys for Tot's for my efforts in helping veterans and their families. I currently serve on the County Homeless Service Oversight Council (HSOC), I am a member of the VFW, DAV, the American Legion, and I am the treasurer of the California Association of County Veterans Service Officers (CACVSO). I would like to bring my recognized leadership skills and experience to the AUSD as a trustee to help shape the future of the district for all our children.
