When I first moved to Walnut Creek with my husband in 2001, we were looking for a family-friendly community, and the quality of the schools was a high priority. Walnut Creek has proven to be exactly what we were hoping for. We have been very happy as our two children have progressed through the schools. When our oldest child enrolled at Murwood Elementary School, I immediately started volunteering in the classroom. I soon became active in the Parent Teacher Association and the Murwood Advisory Committee (the school site council). I learned first-hand the challenges of educating a diverse population with varying needs on a limited budget. I became President of the PTA, with the goal of making a difference for the students on a larger scale. The rewards have grown as I have become more deeply involved in the District. I am currently the President of the Community Coordinating Council, a sub-committee of the WCSD Governing Board. I hold positions on the Walnut Creek Intermediate School PTA as well as the Las Trampas Creek Council, which promotes communication, leadership development, and coordination of efforts between schools. I am also on the Board of the Walnut Creek Education Foundation. I have learned a great deal about the challenges facing the district by participating in these forums, and am now eager to make a more significant contribution by serving on the Governing Board. I have always believed students are best served when teachers, administrators, and other school personnel work collaboratively with parents to provide a coherent, comprehensive educational approach. As PTA President at Murwood, I worked hard to foster collaboration between all community members, and I will continue that same approach as a Governing Board member, ensuring that all voices are heard.
