This information is provided by the candidate |
Independent, integrity, qualified, experienced, and committed to serveDouglas Paul Fay was born at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica in 1962. Doug is the 3rd son of Dr. Rimmon C. Fay and Janet Martella Fay, who met in the chemistry department at UCLA in 1956. Doug grew up in Venice, spending most of his time in Pacific Bio Marine Laboratory, a family run business, and along the California coast where his father Rim, an appointed member of the California Coastal Commission and pioneering scientific expert, worked as an ocean lifeguard and collected marine specimens for research and education. Doug's parents separated when he was 10 years old. He started working full time during his senior year at Venice High School where he majored in industrial education and graduated with honors. Unlike other 3rd District candidates, his California BAR license is a smog license for clean air. Fay is an accomplished ASE Master Automotive Technician currently employed at a Toyota dealership. In recent years as an Emergency First Response Instructor, Doug has certified many members of our community in CPR and First Aid. Doug is an accomplished American Motorcyclist Association professional race tuner. Traveling throughout the nation he earned the Harley-Davidson 883cc Tuner of the Year award in 1993. Doug Fay, certified in 1988, is a Master Scuba Diver Trainer that has hundreds of dives throughout the Pacific Ocean region. He survived the 2004 Asian Tsunami while working in Phuket, Thailand. Shortly thereafter, he met his lovely wife Junalyn on the romantic island of Boracay in the Philippines. They have two beautiful children Paul 8, and Isabella 6. Junalyn, a Filipina, is employed by the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District. The Fay's are PTA members. Fay's political career started in 2000, in Monterey County, when he was managing his family's cattle ranch. His community activism got him appointed by the Monterey County Planning Commission to the Greater Salinas Area Ad-Hoc Land Use Advisory Committee during their General Plan Update. Upon his father's passing in 2008, Doug vowed to look into Santa Monica Bay politics. He was astounded when he discovered that our locally elected and appointed representatives weren't serving with an acceptable level of integrity. On January 3, 2014, the day after he filed a lawsuit against the County of Los Angeles, challenging the Oxford Basin Multiuse Enhancement Project MND, he filed as a candidate for 3rd District Supervisor. Fay is a registered Democrat running as an Independent, due to the party's failure to protect our local habitats, which significantly effects economic growth and social stability. He is a Sierra Club member. Fay will bring a much-needed qualified and independent perspective to the Board of Supervisors. He is not accepting financial contributions. He doesn't want your money, just your vote. |
