The City's Underfunded Pension SystemBy Kevin JohnsonCandidate for Member of Council; City of Cincinnati | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I oppose the ballot initiative that will go before voters this fall. However, the failure of the current Council to address the underfunded pension system allows for such initiatives to gain traction. The current ballot initiative, which will significantly restructure the the city's pension system, is not a viable solution to the problem. However, by continually underfunding the pension system, the current Council has demonstrated a lack of leadership and a lack of respect for the city employees who have given years of service to Cincinnati. The city should form a task force, comprised of financial experts and retired employees, that will present members of council with a series of measurable steps that will begin to address our city's underfunded pension system. City Council should be required to fund the pension systems at the levels recommended by this task force. |
