For a stronger South San Francisco, I will strengthen our local economy and build a strong community.
This recession has brought many challenges. Businesses have closed; Jobs have been lost; Real income has dropped; A housing crisis erupted. The city's limited resources have been outpaced by demand. As daunting as it sounds, there is hope. Early signs of a recovery are visible. But we have more than hope. We have the people who live, work and play in South San Francisco. People who are the finest in all of San Mateo county. This is the city's heart and soul. People working together enabled the city to weather the worst that the recession offered. With people, there are opportunities. We have assets that are underutilized. Storefronts, buildings and lots stand empty and unproductive. Bringing new businesses needs to be a prioritized. Small businesses provide new services/products, create job opportunities and generate revenue. This is the time for all of us to come together; to work together to build a stronger local economy. Together, create an environment where businesses are encouraged to fill out empty storefronts, buildings and lots. Together, build a campaign to support and patronize our local businesses. Together we can make a better and stronger South San Francisco. This is a time for renewal. We must take care of ourselves. Now is the time to build upon the existing foundation of this wonderful community. A strong police and fire department is essential. We need to invest in programs and services for all including families and the young + the hope for tomorrow. We need to invest in childcare, preschool, afterschool and sports programs. We need to restore our schools, libraries, parks, roads and buildings. Together we will achieve our goals. I pledge to care and nurture our community.
