Commerce: We need to rebuild what the recession has taken away from us. Jobs were lost; businesses closed; real income dropped; a housing crisis erupted. Demand for our city's limited resources has exceeded capacity. These are but a few examples. We need to strengthen our local economy. There are empty storefronts, buildings and lots which are unproductive. Bringing in businesses needs to be a priority. New businesses will provide new services and products for all. The vitality of our commercial districts will increase and attract new customers. Businesses (large and small) will create job opportunities. This is an important feature for the families with teenagers and young adults. By filling the empty storefronts, buildings and lots will maximize the revenue base. Our school district will benefit. The city will also benefit.
Community: We must take care of ourselves. The results from a stronger local economy will help fuel our ability to maintain a strong police and fire department. It will enable the city to deepen the programs in support of our hard working families, children, youth and seniors. The recession took its toll on our parks, libraries and roads. We need to restore our parks. We need to enhance our libraries. We need to improve our roads. We need to take care of the people and the community.
Commitment: I care deeply for the people who live, work, and play here. I commit to work tirelessly on your behalf. I will fight on behalf of all South San Franciscans. I hope you will afford me the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.
