Community and Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) Activities:

• School Board member for 12 years, including Board President and member of the Budget Taskforce, City/School District Committee, North Coastal Consortium for Special Education, and Audit Committee; received "Masters in Governance" through the California School Boards Association
• PTA President at Valley Middle and Hope Elementary Schools; actively involved in PTA for 13 years; helped start "Parents on Campus" at Valley Middle School
• Classroom Volunteer for 13 years, teaching music, PE, Jr. Great Books, and Great Works of Art
• Carlsbad High School volunteer for 8 years with Mock Trial, Swim Meets and the Choral, Orchestra, and Band programs
• Trained more than 100 CUSD administrators and teachers in "7 Habits of Highly Effective People"
• Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader; soccer coach
• Served as Chair of the CUSD Instrumental Music Task Force, the Prop B Oversight Committee, and the Parent/Superintendent Advisory Council; participated on the GATE Committee, the Language Arts Vertical Alignment Task Force, and the Math Curriculum Committee

• Director of Marketing and Operations for an Investment Advisor
• Worked in various positions in Marketing and Communications in education, energy, property management, and the specialty chemical industries
• Taught part-time at Grossmont College
• Master's Degree in Business Education with minors in Organizational Behavior and Guidance & Counseling

• Family - our older son teaches Language Arts and Debate at a middle school and coaches a USA swim team and his wife is a therapist with a wilderness therapy program; our younger son is a college student majoring in Asian Studies; both sons attended Carlsbad schools kindergarten through graduation
• Gardening - to relax, I spend time in our "mini-orchard" and vegetable garden and make lots of home-grown salsa and jam
