Mike Hansen was born in Racine, Wisconsin and has lived throughout the United States. Growing up, his family often moved- thus introducing him to people from a wide range of backgrounds. The principles of hard work, honesty and compassion were instilled in Mike and his younger brother Greg, by their parents, Mary and Larry Hansen. A passionate conviction to the "American Dream" and rights outlined in the American Constitution characterize much of Mike's life and continue to direct his principles.

Since moving to California, Mike has taken a strong interest in his community and the future of our State. He graduated from St. Augustine High School, received the honor of Eagle Scout and was invited to join The National Student Leadership Conference for International Diplomacy.

Mike has been employed with Turner's Outdoorsman in San Marcos since 2005 and is currently serving as Store Manager. Turner's Outdoorsman, California's largest shooting sports and tackle outfitter, embodies Mike's passion for the outdoors and the shooting industry. His enthusiasm for the Constitutional right to "Keep and bear arms" plays an important role in his daily life and is an advocate of the 2nd Amendment. During his seven years with Turner's, Mike has attended CSU San Marcos and served as a Resident Advisor for the University Village Apartments. Working in retail and student housing has given Mike a diverse understanding of residents' needs and their opinions on acceptable government. He has become active in organizations such as "Campaign for Liberty," and is a life member of the National Rifle Association. Drawing on his principles of Constitutional rights and limited government control, Mike has actively stood by what he believes.

After being appointed to the San Marcos Traffic and Safety Commission, Mike has emphasized the consequences of inaction on traffic concerns. As population drastically grew in the last decade, San Marcos has become home to some of the most frustrating traffic in the county. Mike understands that real solutions must be employed to approach this sensitive topic, which greatly affects residents' quality of life. As Commissioner, Mike has committed himself to service and listening to citizens' input.

Mike lives, works and shops in San Marcos, and strongly believes in the necessity of small business. He believes that government should work to guard the rights of citizens and their ability to conduct business, not act as a hindrance. As San Marcos grows, he feels that government should actively communicate and listen to the needs of all residents- working to make San Marcos government a better reflection of them.
