Working together as a community we can improve public schools.
Learning doesn't end when the school bell rings, and TRUE learning takes partnerships that help teachers work with parents, and help parents work with their children. Teachers are doing their part in the classroom, and parents must be involved in the education of their children. That means quality education, time spent reading, overseeing homework, and volunteering in school. Working together teachers and parents can enhance literacy, develop good study habits, and promote responsibility, respect, and create great schools. Parents and teachers together can make sure that the education that taking place in the classroom is valued and continued at home. As your school board member I will promote the kind of partnerships which bring the progress we need in our schools.

As a district parent, and resident of Sacramento County for over 35 years, I have a strong vested interest in our community and school district. Both my mother and grandmother retired from the Sacramento City Unified School District after many years as dedicated public school educators. I attended public Sacramento Schools for K through 12th grade, and my daughter Andee, who received her Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy from Mills College in 2011, also attended Sacramento City public schools for 1st through 12th grade. In addition, my community involvement experience has always included advocating for equality in education, housing and opportunity.
