Key Accomplishments First and foremost, the accomplishments of the City of Elk Grove belong to the residents, community activists, city staff, and the entire City Council. Gary is proud to have taken a leadership role in many of these accomplishments. However, the below list of accomplishments represent a collaborative effort among many individuals and organizations over the past six years: Opened up City Hall to residents by requiring developers to meet and confer with local residents FIRST + before Council decision. Forced the City of Elk Grove to stop runaway housing growth and refocus on creating good jobs. Negotiated a strong partnership between the Cosumnes CSD and the City of Elk Grove, ending years of legal gridlock and wasteful spending of public dollars. Led the charge to permanently remove the Cosumnes River flood plain from the pattern of future growth. Established the Elk Grove Youth Commission. Organized the first even Neighborhood Leader Summits, leading to stronger communities and neighborhoods all over Elk Grove. Violent crime has decreased in Elk Grove. Sinclair Report + An overhaul of the business approval process in Elk Grove - providing for less red tape, more transparancy, and increased checks and balances. Leading the fight for growing more good jobs in Elk Grove. Enacted the Social Host Ordinance, holding adults accountable to ensure children do not consume alcohol. Enacted a model Street Racing prevention ordinance and education program that has been held up as a success across the nation and has reduced street racing and saved lives in Elk Grove. Created the Elk Grove Sustainability Committee. Founded the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation, providing scholarships to Elk Grove youth who cannot afford to play recreational sports. Founded Playground Partners, a community built giant playground and water sprayground at Morse Park. Created Elk Grove's first half marathon, the Kaiser Permanente Running of the Elk. Created Elk Fest - community festival and service fair. Led the City to adopt aggressive and innovative economic development strategies to attract good jobs to Elk Grove. State of California Fiscal Incentive Program - which resulted in Elk Grove's first State Agency Headquarters, bringing along 1500 jobs to Elk Grove. Created the City of Elk Grove Multicultural Committee. As Mayor, negotiated the approval of a new Sutter Hospital in Elk Grove. Founded Elk Grove Together, bringing neighborhoods together around service projects. Founded the Elk Grove Small Business Advisory Board, working to support locally owned Elk Grove businesses. Founded the Elk Grove Homeless Solutions Committee Has been an activist Council Member, leading the charge for continued change and a better Elk Grove. |
