Rather than outsource our police services we could pursue contracts to do policing for neighboring cities. Money generated from these contracts could help support our policing needs.Rather than outsourcing our police services to contract with the Sheriff's Department we could pursue contracts with neighboring cities such as Diamond Bar and San Dimas who currently do not have their own police force. Pomona Police Department has their own SWAT team, police helicopter and an up to date communications system. We have the capability to do policing for other cities and the revenue generated from these contracts would supplement our budget and support our city's own police services. If we were to out source our police and contract with the Sheriff we would be faced with costs and fees that we have no control over. Currently, the Sheriff has an outdated communications system and the cost to up date their system would be placed on the cities they service, including Pomona, even though our City's system has already been updated. We need to avoid placing our City in positions where we have no control over costs and fees. We must endeavor to find ways to make services generate revenue to help cover costs associated with those services. |
