Welcome Downey Community,

Thank you for supporting me as your candidate for Downey City Council, District 5. My mission is to generate revenue and revitalize our city by doing the following. First, I'd like to work toward economic development and service in the community, with an emphasis on government accountability and transparency. As a communications major (California State Dominguez Hills), I'm prepared to market our city to prospective businesses not limited to retail or restaurants. I want to bring Dot.com developers to add business and have Downey continue to be innnovative and a leader in technology.

I would also propose we form a "Downey Economic Business Roundtable" which would consist of business and professionals meeting regularly to develop service opportunities and plans for economic progress. This would include service organizations like Rotary and Kiwanis, retail outlets like Stater Brothers, banks, schools, realtors and downtown business owners.

I've written grants for schools and youth sports leagues. I also was a staff writer at The Bulletin (CSUDH). My plan is to use my writing and research skills to find and appeal to Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Programs for state and federal grants to get the money to refresh our parks, and community services.

Culture is indispensable to the life of the community. I support the Downey Civic Light Opera and the Downey Symphony Orchestra. I'd like to open a venue for foreign and independent films downtown, so local audiences don't have to drive to Laemmle theaters far outside Downey. I'd like to bring the arts to our growing Latino population.

I'd like to build a new gym. A city of Downey's size should not have to be restricted to just one (Apollo Park).

I support our local police and would work toward further harmonizing the department with the rest of the community. This is a principle I'd like to bring to the entire community. It's hard for a team to win without harmony. Together we can achieve anything!
