Edwin "Ed" Chau is an elected official, past Judge Pro Tem, and a lawyer.

Ed Chau has been an elected official on the Montebello Unified School District (MUSD) Board of Education for the past 12 years. He has been elected four times, and has served as Board President three times. MUSD is one of the largest school districts in LA County and Ed set out to make a difference. Under his tenure, API test scores increased by 160 points, and attendance rates reached 95%. Ed helped to pass a $98 million school bond that resulted in an additional $73 million in state matching funds to help relieve overcrowding, make repairs, and finance renovation for MUSD's aging schools. Ed advocated for MUSD's cutting-edge, $30 million Applied Technology Center, offering students with career pathways in Architecture, Engineering, Public Services, Health Services and Hospitality.

Ed Chau has been the founding attorney for his law firm for the past 17 years. His areas of practice include small business, immigration, personal injury, and landlord-tenant law. Prior to that, Ed clerked for the LA City Attorney's Office in its Consumer Protection-Criminal Division.

Ed Chau had volunteered with the LA Superior Court as Judge Pro Tem for the past 10 years. In that role, Edwin conducted court hearings and resolves disputes, adjudicating small claims and civil cases.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Ed was an engineer for IBM and a programmer for Unisys Corporation. He holds bachelor degrees in Computer Science and Sociology, both from USC, and a Juris Doctorate degree from Southwestern University.

Ed has had a lifetime of public service. While still in high school, he worked for the Department of Social Services, assisting working families, and volunteered at the Chinatown Service Center. For 10 years, he volunteered as a news broadcaster for a radio station.

He has been recognized as "Man of the Year" by the Rio Hondo Boys and Girls Club. He has also received LA County's Bilingual Education Community Service Award, the Montebello Council PTA Award, and the Congressional Recognition on Excellence in Service. Ed has served the city of Montebello as a member of the Budget Committee, the Investment Committee, the Traffic and Safety Commission, and the Civil Service Commission.

Ed is married to Candice and they have one daughter, Caitlyn. The Montebello Unified School District serves four areas of the 49th Assembly District: Montebello, Monterey Park, Rosemead and South San Gabriel.
