'Technology First' Approach

Why I support an integrated 'Technology First' approach from the district board.

I believe it is important to continue to support this plan and take it a step further by implementing a continual performance review process. I believe it is crucial we ensure that all initiatives and benchmarks of the technology plan are met and exceeeded.

To me, it's no secret that technology holds the key to a successful education in the 21st century. My experience managing and hiring top performers for companies such as Microsoft, Philips and Esurance has taught me that a premium is put on technology at all hiring levels.

I believe that students in today's learning environment require access and exposure to technology as early and often as possible. I believe our district should support a technical cirriculum director, that students should be evaluated on technical levels individually and that all student peformance benchmarks should be reached by 2014.

Moreover, I believe our teachers need the training and tools to ensure proficient technical knowledge during instruction in the classroom. I believe all teachers should possess intermediate-advanced technical instruction skills and that a teacher's technical certifiation program should be implemented.

Technology is more than just a tool. It is what employers in the 21st century are looking for. If our students are not technically proficient in the marketplace, you can bet their global competitors will be.
