Roger is the leading progressive voice on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, where he has served since being elected in 1994 and is currently chair of the Board.

Dickinson has emerged as a regional leader in improving transportation, protecting health care services for the vulnerable, advocating smart growth land use policies, and intervening in gangs through youth oriented prevention programs. Prior to elected office, Roger was a community activist for over a decade who chaired the Sacramento Transportation Coalition, served as President of the Sacramento's American Lung Association, and championed a greener Sacramento on the County Air Pollution Control Advisory Board. As a candidate for the 9th Assembly District, Roger Dickinson will bring his unmatched record of pragmatic solutions and reputation of getting the job done to the State Capitol.

As a member of the Board of Supervisors, Roger has played key roles on other issues such as economic development, environmental protection, improving education, and child welfare. In the Assembly, he will continue his leadership on the issues that Sacramento cares most about and will ensure that the results in the Capitol will be the solutions that Sacramento needs.

Roger received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley where he lettered in varsity basketball. Roger obtained his law degree from U.C.L.A in 1976. He spent seven and a half years, from 1977 to 1984, with the California Department of Consumer Affairs where he oversaw a statewide project to improve and streamline small claims court cases. From 1984 to 2002, Roger was in private practice and in 1987 helped form the firm of Kemnitzer, Dickinson, Anderson & Barron emphasizing automobile warranty law and sales misrepresentation cases on behalf of consumers where he litigated cases up to the California Supreme Court.

Roger lives with his wife, Marj, in the Woodlake neighborhood where they have owned a home for more than 30 years. Marj is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Government and Community Relations for the University of California at Davis.
