Katherine has been balancing impossible budgets throughout California's budget crisis,paying a personal price in her June election by choosing to truly put San Diego's children first, do her job and protect their education. Experience as a longtime parent in San Diego schools has made Katherine Nakamura sensitive to the needs of families across the district. A broad background in education, business and law has made her a fierce and effective advocate on the Board of Education, whether demanding better resources in our schools by reducing and cutting through the local bureaucracy, or by arguing for San Diego's fair share in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. That's why she was given the unique honor of being named, "Legislator of the Year" by the California Association for Music Education, even though she is a trustee on a local school board.
