I want to establish a citizen oversight committee at CVWD to facilitate public participation and public representation.ALL CURRENT BOARD MEMBERS serving on the board, are either working in or retired from agriculture-related businesses; residents cannot rely on commercial interests or board members with vested interests in agriculture to adequately represent them. Right now, very few members of the public attend regular board meetings at CVWD headquarters, including myself. And why is that? Well, not only are the meetings held so far away that residents would have to drive miles and miles to get there, but they are also held on weekdays, in the morning, when many of US have to be at work or with our children. This makes public participation almost impossible. Besides, most of us only know our jobs, our families, our finances,... what do we know about standing up for our rights against a water district? That is why I have chosen to make the effort and run for the Board. I will pressure CVWD to improve their efforts and sincerity in notifying the public of important meetings and issues, and I will seek to have the meetings moved to a time and venue that is more centrally located and universally accessible. CVWD meets often with "stakeholder groups" comprised of commercial rate payers (developers, golf courses, farmers, etc.), and there is no representation for residents. I want to establish a CITIZEN OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE comprised primarily of residential rate payers; people like you and me. We need to have a voice in CVWD's decision making and keep a watchful eye. |
