Born and raised in Houston, Texas I graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1969, a government major. I volunteered for the draft in 1969 and served my two years in the Panama Canal Zone. I swam in college and pulled easy duty in the service, working as a life guard and as an age group swim coach. I even swam on the All-Army Swim Team, trained for a short time at West Point, and represented the U.S.A. in a competition in Spain.

I began my business career with Procter & Gamble, a great place to start out but after three years in marketing I moved into sales and later into sales management. Ifve held general manager and a vice presidential titles but sales has always my primary responsibility. In my hayday during the dot com era I owned my own business, an executive search firm. My specialty was what I called the hi-end of high tech. That is when we moved to Newport Beach, 1999, after ten years in Irvine.

Ifve owned homes on the Penninsula near the Fun Zone, in Newport Shores on the Canal and presently my wife and I live in Santa Ana Heights close to John Wayne and all that hexcitmenth. Youfll therefore understand my interest in airport issues.

Career Highlights: In 2000 when my business was really doing well I took a sabatical and enrolled at Claremont School of Theology, a Methodist seminary. I took more than a full load, five courses, 15 units. To qualify I had to go back and study world religion and philosophy in order to pass the entrance exam. It was an awesome experience and in a way, life changing. After my one semester I had to go back to work but I left the recruiting world and took a job working with SED, Severely Emotionally Disturbed teenage boys. I was a house manager at a group home, working 54 hours a week for $35,000 a year, pretty good money in that world but after a year I had to get back to business.Ifve been a broker since, selling insurance to builders and developers until that market collapsed and presently brokering medium sized businesses in Orange and Riverside County.

I have three sons all who live in Newport Beach. My oldest is an attorney, my middle son is a top salesman with a well known national firm and my youngest has just started a new position with an Irvine firm. My middle son Drew is marrying his long term girlfriend Labor Day weekend in Paso Robles.

I bike, jog, surf on occasion with my kids. I belong to the American Legion and the Newport Beach Lawn Bowling Club. Ifm adventursome. Back in 2002, I rode my bicycle to Houston, Texas to visit my Mom, who is now 89. It was a 21 day trip. Ifm also courageous. In 2006, a friend and I sailed a 32Œ sailboat to Hawaii, also a 21 day trip. And Ifm brave. Ifm running for city council against all odds. Wish me the best

My community involvement has revolved around church and environmental issues. Ifve served as an officer and a board member of OCICE, the Orange County Interfaith Coalition for the Environment. My involvement with OCICE has spanned 10 years. Ifve worked on and off with the Banning Ranch Task Force and Conservancy as the issue has ebbed and flowed since the late 1990Œs. I just resigned from the Conservancy Board in order to run for office. When my kids were growing up I gave a lot of time to my church. I taught Sunday School at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Tustin. My longest stretch was 6 years of Junior High Classes, a fun age group to be around.

In my 63 years I have not been all about business. I paid taxes at times on some pretty good earnings but business was just part of my lifefs calling. My conscience has caused me to run for office, to talk about issues many want to set aside or ignore. I canft do it. Ifve studied science and economics and read in depth. Global issues, vital to all our childrenfs futures need to be looked at at the grassroots level, the only place real change happens. I ask for your consideration. thanks
