Emergency PreparednessBy Sean A. NorvellCandidate for Board Member; Moulton-Niguel Water District; Division 2 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Earthquake and Fire are two real dangers which face MNWD.I was privy to the challenges experienced by Laguna Beach in the 1993 fires- No water and no power. Houses burned while fire fighters and their equipment sat idle. The North Ridge Earthquake broke pipelines and hundreds of water services. Same issues: No water and no power. Yorba Linda's recent fire demonstrated the need for greater preparedness by water utilities and how quickly the scale of disaster can rise. What could happen at 100 mph Santa Ana winds with no water or power? We need to make this negative potentiality a high priority. We need to review our preparedness for emergencies. We are essentially 100% built out, and need to internalize our endeavors to protect our beautiful cities. Water, power and an available competent experienced workforce are the critical remedies. |
