EndorsementsBy Jose Luis "Joe" MorenoCandidate for Board Member; Anaheim Union High School District | |

"Politics as Usual"I am a new candidate, someone that has lived in the Anaheim and Garden Grove area the last 40 years. I am an "average Joe" who wants every child to be given a real opportunity to succeed. I understand the "politics as usual" burdens that even at the school level are placed on new candidates. I will not accept any endorsement from any state politician or organization that basis for such an endorsement is to maintain their own self interest above the interest of the students at AUHSD. We have a serious problem in many of our public institutions, including schools and political, and it is perpetuated when we continue to chose short-term interests over moral principles, acceptance over accountability, and expediency over time-consuming hard work. We cannot continue to tolerate and accept low expectations We have low expectations from politicians when we continue to re-elect them despite their obvious failures and we have low expectations from our public school systems, when too little real change is being done to improve student achievement. Thus, I hold many of our state representatives accountable for our economic situation and uncertainty (a sentiment shared by the majority of voters), and would prefer not to earn their "politics as usual" endorsement. While some politicians might claim to have the interests of students high on their list, their own self-serving interests, with their stepping-stone aspirations are higher than our students' interests. We must start holding politicians accountable for their actions and I believe a mutual endorsement is all about "Politics as Usual." |
