"Preparing for Change"

My Three main issues:
1. Quality Education for all Students
2. Fiscal Management
3. Meeting the Needs of all Learners

1.) Maintaining programs and a strong curriculum based education for all students is my number one priority for the Fullerton School District. Student instruction is where our emphasis should be and interruptions to that should be kept to a minimum. I support keeping teachers in the classroom with as few restrictions to this goal as possible. Less testing, meetings, unnecessary unrelated tasks to the goal: "teaching kids" is an area of focus for the coming years to maintain a strong educational program in the district. Our district is unique in that it offers a diversity of programs for all students; school choice is one of the strengths of our district and a quality that brings folks to Fullerton. I support the programs each school offers and will work to maintain the quality education these programs provide the students of our district.

2.) With California schools facing a fiscal crisis, every dollar our district spends must be justified by a legitimate need. As a fiscal conservative this will be my policy as your next board member. My number one focus will be on each and every student in the district. I am looking at creative ways of cutting spending and consolidating at all levels of the district that do not affect classroom programs and kids. There is really nowhere to generate funds so cuts must be made but NOT at the expense of the classroom, programs, and kids. After 33 years as an educator, now retired, I feel I am experienced and prepared to devote the time necessary to study the budget and help the district as they work through the difficult times ahead with the budget.

3.) With the diversity in our district we must be prepared to meet the learning needs of all students that come to our classrooms. The challenges our schools face with the changing population and complexity of student needs that are coming to our district can present some real difficulties when meeting the goals of a quality education. Whether an ELL, GATE, Special Day Student, students with special needs every student has a right to a quality education. Supporting the schools, principals, teachers and students in all of these areas is a monumental task and will take support from all levels of the district with time, materials, training, and understanding. As a board member I can support programs to support schools with the variety of needs. I have a clear understanding of the challenges our schools face when preparing all students for meeting the state standards at their grade level.

Pledge I am retired and am prepared devote full time to the Fullerton School Board. I have the experience, knowledge and leadership qualities that qualify me for the position. I will ask the questions for every decision:

  • Is it good for kids?
  • Is it good for schools?
  • Is it Fiscally Sound?
