Candidate for
Board Member; Cypress School District

I am seeking re-election to the Cypress Board of Trustees to help maintain an educational program that will be beneficial to the children in the Cypress School District. In this highly competitive society, it is important that every child, regardless of background or ability, is provided an opportunity to achieve and be successful. Cypress School District scores are among the highest in Orange County and I want to see them maintained at this level. This year, Cypress School District has all six of its schools designated as Distinguished Schools by the State Department of Education. As a school trustee for the past 13 years, I am committed to ensuring that Cypress School District continues to offer each child an outstanding educational experience and that the district continues to remain fiscally solvent.

One of the major issues facing all schools in California, including Cypress School District, deals with the unpredictable funding by the State of California. In fact, the State still has not provided a 2010-2011 budget for school districts. In addition to the funding difficulty, Cypress School District has experienced a declining enrollment in the past years. Although it was a difficult process, the Board of Trustees' decision to close two schools this past year has ensured fiscal solvency for the district in future years. Because of outstanding teachers, support staff, administrators, students, and parents, Cypress schools continue to have high academic performance. Cypress School District outperformed the California State and Orange County median score on the annual California State test.
