Candidate for
Commissioner; Township of Shaler; Ward 2

This information is provided by the candidate

After graduating from Shaler Area High School, I attended Hood College, located in Frederick, Maryland. In 1989 I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature with a minor in American Studies and concentrated studies in Biology.

After earning my degree, I returned home to live and work. My past professional experience includes college admissions and financial aid, business and communications, fundraising and special events planning for non-profits, and working with the disabled. I currently work in sales.

I am married with three children ages twelve, ten and seven. I am a member of St. Bonaventure Parish. I have volunteered many hours at our local schools and throughout the community.

In 2005 I ran for Commissioner in the 2nd ward. I enjoyed meeting hundreds of voters and listening to their concerns while campaigning door-to-door. I have continued to stay involved over the past four years by attending Shaler Township meetings and community events.

My love of books and desire to serve the community have continued to grow while serving on the Shaler North Hills Library Board of Directors. Since January of 2006, I have dedicated many hours to ensuring that our Library remains "the jewel" of Shaler Township. I have had the privilege of serving with a dedicated Board, as well as working with talented staff members that have so much to offer our community. Sometimes I have had to make difficult decisions as a Board Member, but I have always made those decisions with great care, basing them on what was best for the future of Shaler North Hills Library and its patrons.

In 2009 I completed a course in "Contemplating Governing" offered by the Local Government Academy. I have signed a pledge that if elected to the Shaler Township Board of Commissioners, I will attend and complete a certificate course for Newly Elected Officials. This is a comprehensive course covering the many aspects of municipal goverment and is offered by the Local Government Academy.

Residents of Shaler Township can be assured that if I am elected to the Board of Commissioners, I will always place the best interests of the Township first.
