I have lived in Half Moon Bay 20 years, got married here and raised two children in our local public schools.

I have a BA in history from the University of Rochester and an MA in journalism from University of Missouri School of Journalism, specializing in economics reporting.

Professional: I am a proud State Coastal Conservancy project manager and legislative affairs coordinator, working for nearly 10 years to protect our coastal resources, support coastal agriculture and fisheries, and enhance public access. As a senior project manager, I collaborate with local governments, non-profit organizations, and federal and state agencies to develop, fund and implement needed, often complex parks, trail and conservation projects with multi-million dollar budgets. I also review and write grants in this position.

As the Coastal Conservancy's legislative affairs coordinator, I am responsible for working with legislators, their staff and committees on legislation affecting the agency and its mission.

I've also worked as a journalist and in the private sector as a marketing communications specialist, formerly with Hewlett-Packard Company.

Public Service: I served three terms as Half Moon Bay mayor and council member ending in 2003. I've also served as a city parks and recreation commissioner and Coastal Commission alternate, appointed by Assembly Speakers Hertzberg and Wesson.

I was co-author of the city's successful slow-growth initiatives, Measures A and D (3% and 1% growth caps respectively), as well as Measure G, the blufftop protection measure. I was instrumental in development of the city's inclusionary affordable housing ordinance and helped secure hundreds of thousands of dollars for Coastal Trail construction and protection of the Railroad Avenue Right-of-Way.

That free right-turn lane on westbound SR 92 onto Main Street? This improvement would not be easing our commute without my leadership.

As mayor and council member I served as the city's representative on Sewer-Authority Mid-Coastside, San Mateo County Council of Mayors, City/County Association of Governments, and the San Mateo County Bikeways Committee.

Community: Vice President Coastside Democratic Club, former Vice-President HMB Neighbors' Alliance, former Vice-President Parks and Preservation Committee, co-founder of Citizen Advocates for More Public Transit (1999), former member Hatch School PTA.

Member: Sierra Club, California League of Conservation Voters, KQED and CA Academy of Sciences.
