Protecting our Fiscal Health and DowntownBy Barbara HellerCandidate for Council Member; City of San Rafael | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
In these tough times, we need a proven leader to help oversee our budget, support our downtown businesses and a thriving economyThe economy has gone through several downturns since Barbara was first elected in 1993. San Rafael is a full service City. We have 17 square miles of land and 5 square miles of water and a population of approximately 58,000 residents to take care of. Our product is service. We must continue to balance our budget and implement cost savings through shared services with the County and other local governments. San Rafael is successful at leveraging fundraising and grants at the local, state and federal level. Barbara has supported important civic and business improvements that have added to the tax base and made our community "user friendly," such as the new downtown parking facility on C Street; full remodel of the Northgate Mall, and she supports programs for homeowners like offering low interest loans for solar retrofit. Whether downtown, in Terra Linda or our unique neighborhoods, Barbara looks out for San Rafael's well being. |
