Connie Rey Castro was born and raised in Southern California and is a product of the community colleges. She has lived in Pasadena for over 15 years and is married to Pasadena native, Dr. Daniel Castro, also a community college educator.

With more than 25 years experience in community college education, Connie Rey Castro has the training and hands-on experience that is needed on the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees. She is a recognized leader and published scholar on community college education and is well prepared for the challenges that face PCC today.

In addition to teaching, Connie's community college experience includes hiring, supervising and evaluating faculty, preparing the budget and academic schedule, curriculum development, planning and implementing community outreach programs.

Connie earned a Doctorate in Higher Education at the University of Southern California. She serves on the National Advisory Board for the Transfer and Retention of Urban Community College Students, a research project funded by the Department of Education. In that capacity she has published numerous articles on community college governance, teaching and learning, collective bargaining, and the retention and transfer of minority students.

Connie's Civic and Community Service experience includes: the Board of Directors, El Centro de Accion Social; Program Director, Zonta Women's Service Organization; Board Member, Pasadena Aids Service Center; Vice President, Pasadena Foothills ACLU Chapter; Member, Mayor's Commission for Youth Development and Prevention of Violence; and, Member, Drop-Out Project, All Saint's Church.
