As a young single mother of two children with nothing but hope and a prayer, my life was forever changed by a community college education. As such, I know first hand the difference an education can make in the lives of economically disadvantaged students and working adults. In actuality, the entire community wins from having an educated citizenry - greater economic productivity, employment, civic participation and home ownership. Perhaps that is why my entire professional life as a teacher, educator and community activist has been dedicated to helping people from all walks of life - people that never dreamt they could get a college education, to attain that dream.

Pasadena City College is a premier educational institution...it is one of the few avenues available for achieving economic and social mobility - the promise of the 'American Dream'. As such, I believe PCC is particularly suited to helping students in Northwest Pasadena get started on the road to a successful college education and to provide job training and re-training opportunities for our community.

As a PCC Trustee, I have consistently advocated the expansion of PCC's educational services and programs in Northwest Pasadena. I will continue to be a strong voice representing the educational needs of the residents of my district and facilitate better utilization of PCC's quality programs by the individuals, organizations and businesses in our community. I am particularly committed to building an educational partnership between PCC and PUSD to improve the level of student success for at-risk African American and Latino high school students - the majority of whom reside in Northwest.
