The Board leadership has placed MiraCosta's accreditation in jeopardy.
If the financial situation were not a big enough blow to MiraCosta's reputation, the evaluation of the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges is potentially devastating. In January the Commission sanctioned MiraCosta by placing it on "Warning Status". It found three major problem areas. One was that the faculty was behind schedule in establishing student learning outcomes. The other two focused on the Board's lack of a planning, cohesion and participative governance. After a follow-up visit in May the Commission commended the faculty for accelerating its timeline but kept the Warning in place because the Board leadership had shown no evidence of progress.
