If MiraCosta's accreditation is lost it will be a major hardship for students who wish to transfer to four-year universities.
MiraCosta could lose its accreditation in June of 2009 if there is not a change in the Board. What this would mean is that students who wished to transfer their credits from MiraCosta to a 4-year university such as UCSM, UCSD or SDSU would not be able to do so. Seventy percent of students at MiraCosta are transfer students. There would be a mass exodus of both students and teachers from the college. Students would have to attend more expensive, more distant schools that would be much more crowded by the influx of MiraCosta students.
