My Candidate StatementBy Dolores OttingCandidate for Council Member; City of Newport Beach; District 7 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Below is my Candidate Statement that can also be seen in the Sample Ballot with a few added wordsI am running for City Council to bring transparency to our City government. I know our City, having attended virtually every Council meeting since 1993. I've been a schoolteacher and businesswoman. I am president of one of the city's largest women's political clubs and, after appointment by the Council was also elected as Vice Chair of the City's Environmental Quality Affairs Committee. The Daily Pilot invited me to be their Watchdog columnist. Newport Beach plans to borrow $30 million dollars to meet this year's budget obligations while having increased its long-term borrowing plans to $250 million dollars. This $250 million dollars will cost us more than $500 million dollars to pay it back. Is this legacy of debt in this time of economic crisis in our best interest? I will just say no to new taxes disguised as fees and work towards a balanced budget to ensure we live within our means with the help of all of you. Newport Beach residents are a brain trust of knowledge that are available to help and serve on committees to ensure we stay economically afloat and provide the best services possible to all of us. I support John Wayne airport containment, deconcentration of rehab homes, harbor dredging, water quality, easing traffic, improving emergency response times in Crystal Cove, reducing the amount of the City's business conducted by ad hoc committees behind closed doors, and financing public improvements through private partnerships rather than placing the burden on Newport Beach taxpayers. My election will put a Public Servant on the Council. I promise. I ask for your vote. |
