Just D.O. It Priority List

By Dolores Otting

Candidate for Council Member; City of Newport Beach; District 7

This information is provided by the candidate
This is a list of the some of the priorities we can work on together!
Just D.O. It Priority List--

John Wayne Airport-- Containment- Containment- Containment

Transparency in our City Government -- With 14 Ad hoc committees meeting behind closed doors conducting our business and spending our money, our City is skirting around Open Meeting Laws and keeping you out!

A Finance Committee that looks at our Finances-- Our 2006 Budget was $192 Million. Our 2008 Budget is $239 Million dollars and we are borrowing $30 Million dollars to meet this year's budget obligations. Does it make sense to you? We are in an economic crisis and now more than ever we need a resident based Finance Committee that looks at our Finances!

De-concentration of the alcohol and drug homes-- Using a development agreement to grant land entitlements into perpetuity to rehab homes that operate their businesses in rentals without proper Environmental Review begs the question of why we ever bothered to waste money on an ordinance. No neighborhood is safe from this issue until we work with all cities Statewide for change and local control.

Crystal Cove Deserves a Paramedic Van-- With their current response times climbing up to 13 minutes, their lives and property are at stake. The residents of Crystal Cove deserve the same 5-minute emergency response time as the rest of Newport Beach residents.

Dredge the Harbor-- How about today since it hasn't been done since 1936.

Current City Hall Site-- Community Center / Police Substation at the current City Hall Site. During the circulation of "Yes on B" it was one of the features that was incorporated into the presentations and plan. It was part of the "Spirit" of what we voted for.

Water Conservation-- Where is the City plan that changes all the sprinkler heads in the parks and medians to the latest technology that will ensure we save water? Where is the 644 water number that we can call and immediately report broken water sprinklers to the City from our cell phones?

"No" to new Taxes and fees-- I will just say No to new taxes disguised as fees. An example is the "tiered water rates" that may soon be proposed. We have made the ultimate sacrifice In Orange County with the implementation of the Groundwater Replenishment System- Toilet to Tap.

Emergency Warning System-- 12 years later it still doesn't't exist. You are worth it! Remember none of our cell phones worked after the July 29th earthquake for at least an hour.

Clean water -- Our underground "Water Delivery System" from the reservoirs to our homes needs to be reviewed and updated. Your family's health and lives depend upon it.

Trash Service-- We keep our current Trash Service. It ranked #1 nationwide for the best service.

Elections for City Council-- No more appointments. Get the Council Members you vote for, not the ones that were groomed for you and will be on the Council for more than the 8 year limit our City Charter requires.

Video Streaming of Newport Beach Commission Meetings

Last, but not least-

Town Hall Meetings-- Where you get to talk & putting you at the top of the list! How can you check the pulse of the Communityif you don't talk to the Residents? Quarterly Town Hall meetings are the answer!
